I remember an elementary school teacher back in the late 50s foisting the Red Scare on us with the admonition that if we were not vigilant, we could go to bed one night free and happy and wake up the next morning communist. It was hard to sleep with that on your little schoolgirl or boy mind.
But now I'm thinking maybe she was right. She just had the wrong generation. And the wrong Communist country. And the wrong takeover approach. China has been simply buying the country out from under us.
