Hell Freezes Over

And you thought it was just a saying.

Lance McClintock of Long, Okla., works on getting a fire started to cook chicken as his wife, Melissa, looks on Monday. The couple was among the hundreds of thousands who lost power in the Midwest ice storm.

(Apologies to Oklahomans. I was compelled to make the joke, and I had to choose from Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma. It was a toss-up with Kansas. Since I was born and raised in Missouri and my son is doing basic training in Oklahoma, OK won out.)

  2. hey there lance. thanks for writing.

i feel for you. we had some power outages in winter when i lived in missouri, and it was only fun for about an hour, and then only when i was under the age of 8. i'm well over the age of 8 now, and i just can't take the cold any more. so i moved down here to galveston (south of texas), and we've been having 80 degree days since thanksgiving. sadly, it got down to 60 today, and that's enough to make me wish winter were over. i am a cold pansy.

i drove down here from missouri one november when a snow storm hit oklahoma and found out that oklahoma doesn't have snow removal equipment. okay, that's not entirely true. i saw two snow plows, and they were both in a ditch. i drove on a highway of solid ice from the snow that was semi-melted and packed down from all the traffic. it wasn't a bit fun.

i have to say, in my opinion (as a cold pansy), you and your wife do not look as though you have nearly warm enough clothes for that weather. snuggle close, and may you get some sunshine and some power pronto.

    best wishes,
    m
