Marching in Step into the Past

Dependable Renegade went on a rant about a woman, upon birthing a child, receiving diamond earrings from her husband.

But to demand and/or expect some sort of tangible remuneration for having a baby? That smacks of horse-trading. It smacks of a retreat to Victorian values, complete with its power imbalance in the marriage.

Well, WT, as I look at the scenery, it seems that Victorian values is precisely where we are headed, and we are well on our way.
