"The files will get you through times of no inspiration better than inspiration will get you through times of no files."And as he walked out of the room, he said, "There's a historical reference for that." It seemed I was the only one who knew what the reference was.
Who else out there knows it?
You can leave the answer in the comments section. Of course, once somebody does that, the contest is kind of blown, isn't it? Oh well, anybody else who recognizes the reference can add their favorite memory of anything related.
....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
And, comments around here being as rare as hen's teeth, after a while, if nobody comes up with the answer, I'll put it in the comments. It'll be like normal - me talking to myself.
Update: I was going to put the answer in the comments, but HaloScan won't take the picture, so I'm putting it here:
We have a winner. Rich sent an email:
"I believe he’s referring to a quote of Free Wheelin’ Franklin’s – one of the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers."Indeed, Rich is correct. (Rich, my youth was misspent in San Francisco - are you going to tell me the Freak Brothers were big in Iowa? Actually, I think the director was from Kansas, so...go figger.)
The Freak Brothers are a 30-some-year-old cult comic*, and the exact Freewheelin' Franklin quote is,
"Dope will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no dope."
*I just looked it up - 1968 was the first comic. Forty years. Let me get my walker and head off to bed.
