Whatever happened to Saddam Hussein?

Saddam Hussain's trial on war crimes charges will be over by the end of the year, Iraq's justice minister said on Tuesday.

Justice Minister Abdel Hussein Shandal said the ousted leader would be tried in Iraqi courts, and his trial will be over by the end of 2005.

Meanwhile, Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, the fugitive confidant of Saddam, has seen his health deteriorate so much that his influence over leaders of the outlawed Baath party has diminished, the Iraqi government has claimed. It added, however, that al-Douri retained his ability to "finance attacks with money he stole from Iraq and transferred to Syria during the rule of the tyrant Saddam."

Okay, two things. I didn't know you could set a date for the end of a trial.

And, I've been trying to follow whatever happened to Izzat. If somebody is following him so closely that they know all about the details of his health, then....why is he still on the free?

Just asking.

...but hey, do what you want...you will anyway
