Dining with the devil

Billmon comments on the question of how the U.S. military experts couldn't see that hiring the Mukhabarat would be a bad idea.
If some idiot with a blog could see this fiasco coming two years ago, why couldn't the world's most powerful military -- and its most expensive and sophisticated intelligence agency -- see it as well?

The answer, of course, is that they were told not to see it by even bigger idiots -- people who never learned Shakespeare's lesson: When you dine with the devil, you must use a very long spoon.

Which may be because they're already on a first name basis with the guy.
And, this reminds me, we never have heard what became of Saddam's records that Chalabi has.
Potentially embarrassing for prominent U.S. citizens, Chalabi's aides hint his treasure trove of Mukhabarat documents includes names of American "agents of influence" on Saddam's payroll
