Testimony of Iraqi "detainee"

If this man is not telling the truth, why didn't he beat a hasty retreat to some hiding place after the first time soldiers went to his home, instead of being there when they came the third time? Oh well, it's probably a fiction anyway. Well, it could be.

"The soldiers returned for a third raid June 18 at about 2am. They came to the house with a helicopter hovering overhead, three tanks, and six armored vehicles. They threw percussion grenades into the house through the doors, which were still broken from the first two raids. They entered the house from all directions, including from above. I was waiting inside, embracing my terrified wife and daughter. The soldiers surrounded us, pointing their guns in our faces. With my basic English skills, I told the soldiers I was ready for them to ask me any questions, and that there was no need to destroy my home and terrorize my family. One of the commanding officers said, 'You are a terrorist, and you have been involved in attacks against us.' I scoffed because that was ridiculous, and I handed the officer all of my documents. The officer paid no attention to the documents. He said that they had information that I was a Fedayeen and I must surrender myself and all of my weapons to them immediately. I told the soldiers I was just a poor citizen, and any of my neighbors would testify on my behalf."

"The soldiers searched the whole house—even the toilet—and interrogated a number of my neighbors. They found nothing in the house and all of my neighbors said I was innocent. The commanding officer apologized to me for his and his soldiers' manners and stated that he believed I was innocent. But then he said he didn't have the authority to let me go, so he arrested me."

Read the testimony - the man talks about being tortured - by Americans. And of one U.S. Army major who tried to help him.
