Saddam gets POW rights, but Gitmo detainees don't

Saddam was taken to an undisclosed location where, Rumsfeld said, "he would be accorded the privileges as though he were a prisoner of war - not that he necessarily is one."

..."One need not worry that he'll be treated in a humane and professional way," governed by the Geneva Convention that spells out the treatment that prisoners must receive, the secretary said on CBS' "60 Minutes."

The convention prohibits violence, cruelty and torture of prisoners, while also barring humiliating and degrading treatment.

Well WTF is he if he's not a prisoner of war? An enemy non-combatant?

If he gets Geneva rules rights - particularly in light of this statement by Rumsfiend - and Guantanamo "detainees" don't, then the obvious message is - be an evil tyrant, kill and slaughter, menace your neighbors and the world, and you will have legal protections. Look Arab, be in the wrong place at the wrong time, donate to Arab charities perhaps, and you go to a detention camp where you are stripped of all your rights and essentially become one of the disappeared - perhaps tortured - no one knows, no one can help you.
