Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul believes that poor Americans would “absolutely” be better off if the minimum wage was eliminated.“Do you advocate getting rid of the minimum wage, would that create more jobs?” Politico’s John Harris asked Paul during Wednesday’s Republican presidential debate.
“Absolutely,” Paul declared. “It would help the poor people who need jobs. Minimum wage is a mandate. We’re against mandates so why should we have it? It would be very beneficial.”
Yes, Ron, because poor people would then have jobs. Why, there’d be no shortage of $1.50 per hour jobs for them. They’d have jobs, unemployment would be drastically reduced, and all would be right with the world.
Actually, if you think about it a little more, if the government is going to supplement that $1.50 with another $9.50, it just might work. And corporations could be even richer! But, even so, I don’t suppose Dr. Paul would like that idea.
