Background:

North Korean officials have detained two American journalists near the border with China. The two journalists are with California-based Current TV. Laura Ling is the sister of the former co-hostess of The View, Lisa Ling.

March 30, 2009 Update: North Korea announced through its government news agency that Laura Ling and Euna Lee will be indicted for illegal entry and will stand trial in North Korean court. “The illegal entry of U.S. reporters into the DPRK and their suspected hostile acts have been confirmed by evidence and their statements,” the report said. The two have now been held for two weeks.

Laura Ling and Euna Lee, reporters for former Vice President Al Gore's San Francisco-based Current TV media venture, were detained March 17 while reporting on North Korean refugees living across the border in China.

North Korean border guards grabbed Ms. Lee and Ms. Ling on March 17 on the border with China, where the women were gathering information about North Korean defectors.

Why haven’t Lee and Ling been the constant focus of media like Saberi was during her relatively quick detention? Perhaps because they’re not being held in Iran, which we’re so keen to get at, and instead are in North Korea, where the government actually has nukes. So, good luck to you ladies.
