More on that helicopter brought down in Afghanistan

2 July 2005 -- U.S. fighter planes bombed a suspected Taliban compound in a mountainous part of eastern Afghanistan as part of an ongoing search for a missing American military unit.

A U.S. military spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Jerry O'Hara, said the target was "an enemy compound in Konar Province." He declined to say if there were any casualties.

Hundreds of U.S. and Afghan troops backed by attack helicopters have been scouring the area for the small U.S. reconnaissance team that has been missing since a battle with insurgents on 28 June.

We could see this as simply retribution for the downing of the helicopter that killed 16 of 17 soldiers, but considering the possibility that this "enemy compound" might have been holding the missing American troops that helicopter was sent in to pick up (rescue?), and yet we were willing to bomb them anyway, I'd say we're not being given the truth about the missing troops. You think?

There's a story there (a failed resuce attempt would be my guess), but it may be many years before it comes out - if ever.
