New Army recruitment bait

Lately, I've read about recruiters threatening arrest of a prospective recruit if he didn't show up for his appointment, and of some recruiters telling prospective recruits to lie on their applications.

Now, they're apparently trying something different.

The Army will allow recruits to sign up for 15 months of active-duty service, rather than the typical four-year enlistment, as it struggles to lure new soldiers, a general said Thursday.

Yeah. Like the guys who thought they signed on for four-years haven't already found out it doesn't matter what you sign up for!

In case you've been living in another country or in a sensory deprivation tank, unethical recruitment is not unusual.

Army Recruiting Command spokesman Douglas Smith said the Army was investigating 480 allegations of improper conduct by Army recruiters in fiscal 2005, which began Oct. 1. The Army looked into 473 such allegations in all of 2000, 643 in 2001, 745 in 2002, 955 in 2003 and 957 in 2004, Smith said.

And those are just the ones that are reported.

....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
