The [Pew Internet & American Life Project] survey shows that the online political news consumer population grew dramatically from 18% of the U.S. population in 2000 to 29% in 2004. Those who have used the Internet to get political news grew over six fold, from 4 percent in 1996 to 29 percent in 2004 while Newspapers as a source of political news went down from 60 percent in 1996 to 39 percent in 2004.
The number of women using the Internet for political news has grown from 34% in 1996 to 47% in 2004. While the same figures for men show a decline with only 53% using the Internet in 2004, down from 66% in 1996.
