I always check Google's daily headlines collection, and I've noticed that ever since the Iraqi "elections", there is nothing on the situation in Iraq. It has simply disappeared.
And speaking of disappearing, apologies for the absence of posts on Saturday and Sunday. I was in New York on Saturday and too tired after returning on Sunday.
I flew into La Guardia Friday evening to see a couple of incredible ladies I met on my trip to Venezuela a year ago - one in Queens and the other in Manhattan. Together with a math professor from Manhattan who was also on that Caracas trip, we drove a half hour north of the city to the home of another member of that trip (the incredible - 93-year old! - Irv), where we were joined by another couple from the trip. We all then went to a busy intersection in Rockland, New York, to participate in a peace vigil that a group of folks have been holding every Saturday on that same intersection (except once when there was a blizzard and no traffic) since the U.S. invaded Iraq.
It was wonderful to see so many of the people who had been on the Caracas adventure once more, but even better was to be in the presence of a group of intelligent, caring, motivated, incredibly energetic, socially-conscious and very witty people.
These are today's heroes. And I salute them.
And this just in.....
The Pope is still alive.
