Wondering about Putin

I'm puzzling about that bizarre claim that Putin made regarding Russian intelligence offered to the U.S. about Saddam's intent to attack.

The timing of it is one of the strange pieces, and since it coincides with the trial of oil billionaire Khodorkovsy and negotiations with his oil company, Yukos (Russia's second largest oil producer), I'm starting to wonder if the answer isn't there somewhere. I had read back when Khodorkovsky was arrested that there had been some talk about U.S. oil companies getting control over Yukos. Although that didn't happen, Americans did end up in some high positions within the company. Khodorkovsky definitely has American connections. And Putin met with Chowderhead just before making the claim about Russian intelligence. So now I'm wondering if there might have been some deal about Bush or American parties staying out of the Khodorkovsy-Yukos affair, permitting Putin to prosecute Khodorkovsky and manipulate Yukos, in return for a little white lie from Putin to bolster The Lying Bastard's election position.

Seems possible.
