Torture comparisons

Digby has a fine post quoting from an American POW at the Hanoi Hilton.

Frankly, I think that it's quite naive or willfully blind of people to believe that their people don't do what people do everywhere in the same situation. To imagine that you can have a system set up where some people have total control over other people, where those in control want information from those they are controlling, and it's all hidden from public view, and you would not engender torture and abuse, is to misunderstand the human beast.
