UK environmental protesters won their case to block having four old toxic U.S. ships dismantled in port.
Local authorities had given planning permission to dismantle "marine structures" at the site. But the High Court's Mr Justice Sullivan ruled that the permission did not apply to ships.
"A ship is no more a 'marine structure' than a car is a 'highway structure,' a narrow boat a 'canal structure' or a steam locomotive a 'railway structure,'" he said.
Which begs the question - what can they dismantle at the site? The site itself?
But, congratulations to UK ports.
The four ships are part of a fleet of 13, with the other nine still in the United States awaiting permission to sail.
Sail on. Or go back to Virginia, I suppose.
....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
