My comment: Some time after December 7, when he was either moved from where they had him, or the decision to move him was made.

And I have a good next line for the story: somehow, quite unpreventably, he commits suicide, before he can be put on trial.

Or somehow, somebody gets to him, a la Jack Ruby to Lee Oswald.

But perhaps not before he admits to having a WMD program that he was days away from using.

There are other possibilities.
