I keep picking up bits and pieces and opinions about Baker being put in charge of restructuring Iraq's debt.
That's a great way to put it, too - restructuring it.
If the new structure will be intended, as it has been claimed, to benefit Baker's "clients" the Saudis, I assume that means to pay them off in some fashion. If it's directly financially, in the form of repayment of loans, and if, as is suggested, part of the restructuring effort will (or should) be to have loans forgiven, and further, if part of the plan is to have certain lenders forgive those loans, I think it might be a little tricky to get France, Russia and Germany to go along with the deal, now that we've forbidden them from getting a good slice of future Iraqi rebuilding contracts.
Damn, this foreign policy stuff is complicated, innit?
Complicated further by retaining an Oaf in the Oval Office, no doubt.
....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
