I was going to just let this whole hype pass, but...

The White House is backing off today's account from Counterterrorism Advisor John Brennan's which suggested that bin Laden had used one of wives as a human shield in the final moments of his life.

You see what I mean? I was going to comment yesterday about that remark – saying, yes, and if he’d had a baby handy….

But here’s the thing: this came from an “Advisor,” and apparently it wasn’t pre-approved. The advisor went over the top even for Obama. However, it is just part and parcel of the way our administrations now handle foreign affairs. Wag the dog, and fabricate stories for the sale. And after reading that Osama had a burial at sea immediately following the supposed kill, I don’t even believe that the thing really happened. It’s another Jessica Lynch moment. Who knows what really happened? The man was sick. Perhaps he died and someone of his entourage decided to collect a fat reward. Perhaps he’s finally agreed to be quiet for a fatter reward. Perhaps there actually was just now intelligence to lead us to him, but it’s all fishy. Just like it always is. And rather than tell us the truth, they create some cock and bull John Wayne screenplay and coordinate a rabble of idiots for photo shoots. Christ, how gullible are we?

And anyway, what difference does it make? It’s a campaign move. It’s not like Osama has been out there leading every jihadist on the planet, and now that he’s “dead” - no, not dead, but killed by the Americans - they’ll all go home with their tails tucked between their legs. What a fabulous “victory.” We're number one.
