December 26, 2010: The use of full-body scanners and invasive pat-downs at airports around the country will not change for the "foreseeable future," Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said in an interview broadcast Sunday.
It was big talk, anyway. Or perhaps she just couldn't foresee the future very far at all. Flash forward less than two months:
February 1, 2011: The US Transportation Security Administration began rolling out new airport scanner software Tuesday that produces less revealing images of travelers. The new software "enhances privacy by eliminating passenger-specific images and instead auto-detects potential threat items and indicates their location on a generic outline of a person," the TSA said.
I have a question. Did they just now create this equipment, or did they have this option all along?
....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
