Where She Stops, Nobody Knows

Oceanographic satellite data now shows that the Loop Current in the Gulf of Mexico has stalled as a consequence of the BP oil spill disaster.

Dr. Gianluigi Zangari, an Italian theoretical physicist, and major complex and chaotic systems analyst at the Frascati National Laboratories in Italy [...] notes that the effects of this stall have also begun to spread to the Gulf Stream. This is because the Loop Current is a crucial element of the Gulf Stream itself and why it is commonly referred to as the “main engine” of the Stream.

The concern now, is whether or not natural processes can re-establish the stalled Loop Current. If not, we could begin to see global crop failures as early as 2011.

[...]

The Gulf Stream is a strong interlinked component of the Earth's global network of ocean conveyor currents, which drive the planet's weather systems.

  Your Own World USA

Better start killing a lot more Middle Easterners to reduce the competition for food. Oh, wait. It's just the rantings of some foreigner – and a "theoretical" physicist to boot. Damned environmentalists. (It occurs to me that if more people read my blog, I'd have to mark all that with a "sarcasm alert.")

Satellite images shed light on the trajectory of the oil and the current. The image above shows the oil spill as observed from space by the NASA satellites Terra and Aqua on Monday.
