More anti-depressant bad news

A warning to pregnant women comes on top of the recent admission that SSRIs can lead young people to serious mental problems, including suicide attempts.
Newborn babies could be at risk of suffering withdrawal symptoms if their mothers are prescribed antidepressants during pregnancy, researchers said on Friday.

The drugs known as selective reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) can cause convulsions, irritability, abnormal crying and tremors.

"Risks of neonatal convulsions and neonatal withdrawal syndrome seem to be increased with all SSRIs," said Professor Emilio Sanz of the University of La Laguna in Tenerife, Spain.

Depressing, isn't it?

Anti-depressants can be wonderful in certain cases, but they are far, far too readily prescribed. Great money-maker for Big Pharma. Easy solution for robotic doctors. Hey, got a problem? Take this pill. Now the ugly world we're creating looks good, doesn't it? And it takes up so little of your time. Unlike serious introspection or psychotherapy. You can keep right on sedately working your meaningless job (and not get worked up over the activity of the rape-and-pillage gang).

....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
