Israel arrests another American peace activist

A week after his arrest and detention with no formal charges, American peace activist Patrick O'Connor remains in Israeli custody and faces deportation.

O'Connor, 41, was arrested by the Israeli secret police, Shin Bet, while planting olive tree seedlings in front of the illegal separation wall in the West Bank town of Biddu on 25 January.

He came to the West Bank last month to volunteer with the non-violent peace group, the International Solidarity Movement (ISM), a non-violent peace group consisting of Palestinian and International activists working to raise awareness of the Palestinian situation.

Others have been arrested, deported, shot at, and, in American student Rachel Corrie's case, murdered.
