Reagan's dead. On with the show.

Former President George H.W. Bush successfully jumped from an airplane today to celebrate his 80th birthday, a more leisurely reprise of his fabled bailing from a crippled aircraft during World War II.

The jump was originally to have been a solo effort, but high winds that delayed it also forced Bush to be strapped to an Army parachutist in a tandem jump.

He could have waited for better weather if he'd wanted to. But, hey, it was quite the bash - two days of fun!

The jump caps two days of festivities. On Saturday, a baseball park full of about 5,200 people, including former Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev, former British Prime Minister John Major and celebrities and sports figures such as Dennis Miller and Pete Sampras, wished Bush a happy birthday.

Today, several of those in attendance boarded a train in Houston for the 100-mile trip northwest to College Station to see Bush's jump over Texas A&M University, home of the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum.

The elder Bush delivered a eulogy at the memorial service Friday for former President Ronald Reagan, under whom he served as vice president. A Bush spokesman, Jim McGrath, said that despite the mourning period, the sentiment was Reagan would have felt "the show must go on."

Yeah, the show.
