Hiding your taxes

Just like poppy. He's fooled you again. No new taxes. Har.
A new consumption tax such as a national sales tax could spark the economy as a partial replacement for income taxes, articulated Alan Greenspan Federal Reserve Chairman, on 3rd March. Greenspan informed that there would be both political and administrative difficulties in moving toward a new national tax system. Simplification is needed, perhaps a hybrid between consumption taxes and income taxes, he told the President's Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform.

Bush told reporters, "I've told the American people I want to work to simplify the tax code, to make it easier to understand, so people are spending less time filing paper. And I believe a simplified tax code will spur entrepreneurial activity, and so I'm looking forward to what the commission has to say."

Simplifying the tax code. Cute, huh? Spending less time filing paper (does he mean filling out paperwork? - the time it takes to file is the amount of time it takes you to put your papers in the mail) - because that really eats into your yearly profits, doesn't it? Phew, boy. If I could just spend less time filing paper, I would be so much better off. I could take those vacations now that I've gotten such a great tax break and am so much more flush, but am never able to take because I'm tied up so long filing paper.

Your great boon $300 tax break has long been eaten up. Your dollar is getting more and more worthless by the day. We know you won't go for more income tax payments. So we're going to try...a consumer tax.

One way or another, your days of wanton consumption are over. Don't worry, you won't even be able to afford Wal-Mart prices by the time the dollar tanks and China calls in her chips. So, it's not like you'll miss being able to buy stuff.

Actually, I think this is a much better way of taxing, although it will still be disproportionately hard on the masses over the wealthy. But, they're not talking about dropping the income taxes that you already pay. Just adding an additional (federal - most of you already pay state sales taxes) consumption tax to them. Hybrid. That's cute, too.

....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
