Meanwhile, in Iraq

Continued killing of Iraqi soldiers and civilians, three consecutive days of mortar attacks on the Green Zone, kidnapping of the daughter of the assistant to the secretary-general of the Iraqi Council of Ministers, jailbreak by 28 prisoners at Abu Ghraib, Mosul under seige beginning to look like the next Falluja, election candidates killed or not announcing their candidacy, groups boycotting the elections. All in Juan Cole's post, with this conclusion:
Bush keeps talking about how he intends to get through to the Arabs as to the real US role in the world of promoting democracy and prosperity. But he either doesn't mean it or hasn't the slightest idea how to go about making a good impression.
