Terror Plot on US Facilities in Germany

Three suspected Islamic terrorists from an al-Qaida-influenced group nursing "profound hatred of U.S. citizens" were arrested on suspicious of plotting imminent, massive bomb attacks on U.S. facilities in Germany, prosecutors said Wednesday.

So now everybody around the globe is at risk simply by our presence in their country. I suppose Mr. Bush would say, "Sorry for the inconvenience."

And Another Thing...

Why would John McCain make the statement that he's sticking in the race although he's flat broke because come October there would be a big change?
When I asked this question in a July 17 post, I hesitated because it was something I heard on the radio and didn't have a reference for it, but also because I first remembered it as September, but then thought I might have misremembered. But maybe I was right with my first recollection.

My whole point was that it seemed rather pointed, like McCain had some information that led him to believe something really big would happen this summer.

With the latest terror threat out about something going down in D.C., I'm again wondering just what McCain was talking about.

Not that I think anybody in our government would know about attacks before they happen or anything like that, mind you.

It's Real This Time

It turns out the Capitol Police have bolstered security around the U.S. Capitol after a recent al-Qaeda communique threatened an attack on Washington. Lott, according to Roll Call, responded with characteristic gravitas. In light of the heightened threat, Congress can either amend the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act or all of us can run screaming into the inferno.

The latter choice sounds way more interesting to me. From a visual standpoint particularly.

Actually what Lott said was, or "the disaster could be on our doorstep." And...

Further demonstrating his counterterrorism sagacity, when asked if people should leave Washington, D.C., during the month of August, Lott replied that "I think it would be good to leave town in August, and it would probably be good to stay out until September the 12th."

September 12? Because the magic date will have passed?

Practical fellow, isn't he? Where will all the citizens of DC go for a month and a half? Those that don't have vacation time built up. FEMA trailers in Pittsburgh?

....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.

Car Bomb Plot Foiled in London

Isn't it interesting (to use a favorite Dubya phrase) that this attack (which seems to have been accidentally discovered and neutralized) was planned for the first day of Gordon Brown's term?
