A Chinese military doctor, Jiang Yanyong, who exposed Beijing's cover-up of last year's Sars epidemic is under 24-hour supervision and being forced to undergo "brainwashing sessions," a newspaper reported on Monday.
"Chinese military and security officials are forcing the elderly physician ... to attend intense indoctrination classes and are interrogating him about a letter he wrote in February denouncing the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre," The Washington Post said, citing sources.
Jiang, 72, and his wife, Hua Zhongwei, also a doctor, have not been seen since government agents arbitrarily detained them June 1 while en-route to the US embassy in Beijing to obtain a visa, according to New York-based Human Rights Watch.
