'White' Al Qaeda

According to a source at MI5 — the British equivalent of the CIA — 1,500 white Britons are believed to have converted to Islam with the purpose of funding, planning, and carrying out surprise terror attacks.

That’s gonna make it hard to profile.

One of the places for recruitment is prisons. Of course, they do have to get out before they can terrorize, but I guess they can still plan in prison, and it makes you realize what a huge market they have in the U.S.

Fighting Them Over There

That would appear to be the desire of both Cheney-Bush and bin Laden. The "following us back here if we leave Iraq" ridiculous line (What? They can't find their way here if we don't lead them? How'd they get here on 9/11?) should be put to rest not only for the stupidity, but for the inaccuracy...

As Professor Robert A. Pape proved in his book Dying to Win: The Strategic Logic of Suicide Terrorism – by studying every single individual suicide bomber on Earth between 1980 and 2004 – the one characteristic that all suicide bombers have in common is the presence of foreign combat forces in their country – not Islam.

[...]

The Bush team's invasion killed a few birds with one stone for bin Laden: It got rid of the Ba'athists, put tens of thousands of Americans within rifle range and it created a training ground and propaganda tool for new recruits.

There had never been a suicide bombing in Iraq before 2003. Never. Now there have been well over a thousand.

[...]

Ask an old Commie. He'll tell you, "The action is in the reaction."

This is why they knocked down the towers: al-Qaeda's purpose was to give the United States "no choice" but to come fight on their territory personally instead of, as they saw it, through their Western-installed governments and the Israelis, and then "bleed" us until the American people demand an end to the intervention or the dollar breaks, whichever comes first.

Bin Laden couldn't have laid out his strategy more clearly than in his speech of October 2004:

US Protects Terrorist Organization in Iraq

The Mujahedeen-e-Khalq (MEK), an Iraqi-based Iranian opposition group, is considered a terrorist organization by the United States. Any American supporting the group can be charged with a crime. Yet the MEK “gets protection from the U.S. military despite Iraqi pressure to leave the country,” and “regularly escorts MEK supply runs between Baghdad and its base, Camp Ashraf.”

But you probably missed the story because (according to a reader who sent it to me) it was posted very briefly on CNN's front page and then quickly disappeared. No other major outlet (and very few minor ones) seem to have picked it up.

  Harper's article

There's a CNN report on YouTube here.

This is not a new group for us. Way back when, I posted on our support of this terrorist group.

From Justin Raimondo:
Rep. Bob Ney (R-Ohio) is demanding an investigation into how an organization officially deemed a terrorist group could operate so openly in Washington. Let the process start with an inquiry into the Perle connection.

  YWA post 1/28/04

The military signed an April 16 cease-fire with the Mujahedeen Khalq after warplanes from the U.S.-led coalition invaded Iraq and bombed Mujahedeen Khalq sites. The group agreed to disarm and was not attacked again.

[...]

Pentagon officials have defended the cease-fire decision, saying the military's focus at the time was to defeat Iraq, and American troops could not afford to be fighting another heavily armed group at the same time.

So, if we cannot afford to fight them, we'll negotiate with them.

[...]

These guys are in camps, disarmed (although Armitage says he believes they were disarmed only of their major weapons and that they still have sidearms). Why aren't they in Guantanamo?

  YWA post 10/29/03

We have quite a little history with this group.

And Bush is still saying that we won't tolerate anyone who deals with terrorists.

I think you should read that Harper's article. It's short.

Cat Stevens: Terrorist

Okay, the Cat went whacko back when Salman Rushdie was on the Ayatollah's hit list, if the reports were true, but Cat fans went whacko-er. Piled up all their Cat Stevens albums and bulldozed 'em. What? Did the music stop being good? Whatever the man does now, his musical history is unassailable. So don't be stupid.

And, besides, now we have the terrorist police collecting anyone whose beliefs are considered objectionable, whether they commit any terrorist act or not. Welcome to the new police state.

U.S. officials detained singer Cat Stevens on Tuesday and will return him to Great Britain today, because he is now listed on an official terrorist "watch list."

Federal officials say a plane bound for Washington from London was diverted to Maine because passenger Yusuf Islam -- formerly known as pop singer Cat Stevens -- showed up on the U.S. watch list.

The flight had already taken off when the match was made between the passenger and the watch list. That's according to the Transportation Security Administration.

The plane was met by federal agents at Maine's Bangor International Airport, where sources say Islam was questioned by the FBI and Immigration officials.

...Islam is a peace activist who has criticized the war in Iraq.

He has also criticized terrorist acts by Muslims, including the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and the deadly school seizure early this month in Beslan, Russia.

...A Homeland Security spokesman says Islam will be put on the first available flight out the country.

Homeland Security Department spokesman Dennis Murphy identified the passenger as Islam. "He was interviewed and denied admission to the United States on national security grounds,'' Murphy said.

Feel safer now that Cat Stevens has been captured?
